Sometimes, that odd dynamic results in a uniquely honest conversation. Much of the fun of Rogan’s podcast comes from the pairing of the unqualified with the expert, like listening to Joe Rogan ask physicist Brian Cox if octopuses could be descended from space aliens. And Gadde gave measured, eloquent responses to his concerns, even if it was amusingly obvious that she didn’t share Pool’s view of conservatives being an oppressed minority. But to be fair, Pool seemed to genuinely believe what he was saying, and many others hold the same opinion. There are always those who try to frame the extension of human rights as some kind of assault on traditional values, and Pool really pushed that perspective. To Pool, the right of an American to misgender trans people on social media is of the utmost importance without it, society will apparently crumble into a degenerative wasteland. Pool obsessively returned to that tired old trope of gender pronouns, a debate which will surely age as badly as the ridiculous arguments once pitched against gay marriage. I find it bizarre that this was pitched as an argument in favor of free speech Pool doesn’t seem to understand that bullying and hate speech pushes away the oppressed, silencing them more effectively than any Twitter policy. I’m not joking - this was genuinely the crux of his argument, one in which he repeatedly asserted.
